Summary

Great tips on how to build better habits that are easier to stick to and improving your life。

McCall Halvorson

Absolutely loved this book! So so good about giving realistic steps to making yourself better。 Actually read it once and immediately started it again just to better remember it。 Would definitely recommend。

Like a lot of these style books they’re kind of annoying and could probably be reduced by a third but certainly have valuable advice that could change your life。

Gold。 Really useful for anyone seeking to get unstuck in areas of life and create habits that serve your values and identity。

This was really interesting to read, since most of it made complete sense。 I like his simple approach to building good habits and breaking bad ones。 Atomic Habits pointed out things I had never noticed before, such as how my environment affects my motivation。 The four laws on how to create a good habit are:1。 Make it Obvious2。 Make it Attractive3。 Make it Easy4。 Make it Satisfying (this one I especially like, since I think sweeping is satisfying! ;)To break a bad habit, you invert the laws state This was really interesting to read, since most of it made complete sense。 I like his simple approach to building good habits and breaking bad ones。 Atomic Habits pointed out things I had never noticed before, such as how my environment affects my motivation。 The four laws on how to create a good habit are:1。 Make it Obvious2。 Make it Attractive3。 Make it Easy4。 Make it Satisfying (this one I especially like, since I think sweeping is satisfying! ;)To break a bad habit, you invert the laws stated above (make it: invisible, unattractive, difficult, and unsatisfying)。 I enjoyed all the different examples and quotes included throughout the book。 Definitely recommend! 。。。more

Once or twice a year, I pick up a self-help type book and almost always, over 90% of the time, I am regretful that I made the purchase, and stop reading the book around page 40。。。I am happy to say that "Atomic Habits" gave me a lot of actionable information and was easy to read。 I actually want to read it again and soon。 It made me think of things in a different way, and it made forming good habits and breaking old habits manageable, something I can actually see myself accomplishing。 It also is Once or twice a year, I pick up a self-help type book and almost always, over 90% of the time, I am regretful that I made the purchase, and stop reading the book around page 40。。。I am happy to say that "Atomic Habits" gave me a lot of actionable information and was easy to read。 I actually want to read it again and soon。 It made me think of things in a different way, and it made forming good habits and breaking old habits manageable, something I can actually see myself accomplishing。 It also is chock full of introductory stories illustrating each behavior。 。。。more

Most of things obvious, but still a good reminderThe book is not bad。 I really got the impression that the author put some good amount of effort writing it and, most importantly, he seems to believe in what he is writing。 However, it builds mostly on things which are really obvious for someone who is more than 30 yo and is already after education and has got a job, family etc。 In one way of another, I think that everyone is already applying the "techniques" from this book in their daily life wit Most of things obvious, but still a good reminderThe book is not bad。 I really got the impression that the author put some good amount of effort writing it and, most importantly, he seems to believe in what he is writing。 However, it builds mostly on things which are really obvious for someone who is more than 30 yo and is already after education and has got a job, family etc。 In one way of another, I think that everyone is already applying the "techniques" from this book in their daily life without thinking about it。 While reading I recognized things which I do a few times, but never really had the "aha!" moment。 But a good reminder sometimes。I just don't give 4 stars because those "graphs" are an insult to my intelligence。 The book would look much better without those graphs made for 10-year old children! 。。。more

✨ Yiss, I got to learn a lot of new models related to building habits from this book。 The tittle says it all: you may not notice but even small, tiny habits could create big changes。 I stopped reading so-called self-help books for a while, but this book, in my opinion, is quite different from those I read before。 Maybe it is by the way the author tells the story! Mình sẽ đọc lại cuốn này, vào một ngày nào đó thui :> Đọc xong rất nhiều dopamine nhưng giờ hết rùi, mặc dù vẫn rất nhớ những mô hình ✨ Yiss, I got to learn a lot of new models related to building habits from this book。 The tittle says it all: you may not notice but even small, tiny habits could create big changes。 I stopped reading so-called self-help books for a while, but this book, in my opinion, is quite different from those I read before。 Maybe it is by the way the author tells the story! First, I listened to audiobook having purchased the hard copy。 Useful that each chapter end with concise list of main points。 In total, provided what I sought: guidance to improve habit formation, especially with regard to the in breaking out macro objective into smallest increments to maintain clarity of purpose whereby motivation evolved naturally。 ymmv。

This is a great book! Highly recommend for people looking to change their lives。 James Clear gives science behind what he says and lots of great ideas for how to build new habits。 This is one you will want in your personal library。

Solid book, considering the breadth of references to core psychological principles, such as behavior modification and concepts of intrinsic motivation。 One thing that struck me pretty consistently about this book, however, is that it is clearly written for a particular type of reader; it is not inclusive of marginalized populations or those for whom this book was clearly not intended。 This book would be better if it took sociocultural factors into account。 I would also argue that Clear's use of Solid book, considering the breadth of references to core psychological principles, such as behavior modification and concepts of intrinsic motivation。 One thing that struck me pretty consistently about this book, however, is that it is clearly written for a particular type of reader; it is not inclusive of marginalized populations or those for whom this book was clearly not intended。 This book would be better if it took sociocultural factors into account。 I would also argue that Clear's use of the term "identity" should be reworded。 He is speaking about the type of person we want to be, and intrinsic motivation, but he neglects the fact that identity is not malleable for some depending on the context; for many, identity encompasses cultural aspects such as race and ethnicity, and his assertion that we act in alignment with the identity we hope to subscribe to is ill-fitting and at times outright inappropriate (i。e。 "One solution is to avoid making any single aspect of your identity an overwhelming portion of who you are" [p。 247])。 But, this is to be expected, as it is written by a someone who is writing from a place of privilege。 It doesn't take into account how socioeconomic status, discrimination, and inaccessibility to resources clearly impact behavior change and the development, or derailment, of habits。 。。。more

I stopped reading self-help books mid last year as I found some of them too preachy and idealistic。 So why I picked up this one (I listened to its audiobook)? Because my point-of-view evolved over this period。 My current stand is, I don’t want to turn into a robot to do things how they are “supposed” to be done。 That doesn’t mean we outrightly reject all the knowledge in the world。 It’s more nuanced than this。 I believe we should learn the hard skills – science, finance, and so on – by using the I stopped reading self-help books mid last year as I found some of them too preachy and idealistic。 So why I picked up this one (I listened to its audiobook)? افضل شيء في هذا الكتاب انه عملي جدا و سهل التطبيق وغير تفكيري، بدلا من التركيز علي الأهداف ركزت اكثر علي العادات التي تجعلني اصل لأهدافي

The advice is as useful as you're willing to implement it。 Everything in this book is convincing and actionable, a perfected way to practice habits that serve your ultimate goals in life。 However, I'm always bothered when an author plugs their website or emailing list in the middle of a chapter, it's distracting (I'm reading, even if I was interested, why would I want to go to my computer to look up their website in the middle of it?), and immediately puts an expiration date on the book (they ca The advice is as useful as you're willing to implement it。 Everything in this book is convincing and actionable, a perfected way to practice habits that serve your ultimate goals in life。 However, I'm always bothered when an author plugs their website or emailing list in the middle of a chapter, it's distracting (I'm reading, even if I was interested, why would I want to go to my computer to look up their website in the middle of it?), and immediately puts an expiration date on the book (they can't maintain their mailing list for eternity)。 The authors mentions his website, mailing list, and/or downloadables available online at least once a chapter, and the last two chapters of the book, covering Business and Parenting, are only available online。 This makes the book feel incomplete, and usually raises my suspicion that the book is just an ad for whatever the author is selling online。 For once, though, since the author's main job is as a blogger, I don't hold it against him。 Mentioning his blog doesn't feel so much like exploitation of the reader as I've seen in other books that want you to sign up for their website at a price。 Each mention of his website seems it's to the benefit of the reader, but still, I'd have preferred to have felt like I was in possession of the "complete" book。 I still give all the advice and writing in the book 5/5 stars。 If the author's website hadn't been mentioned, I never would have thought that the book was ever missing anything (I wish he'd just move all mentions of his website and downloadables to the appendix!!)。 。。。more

Here's my problem。 It's going to take the ghost of Miserable Marley, plus three more ghosts visiting me on Christmas Eve to really get me to change my bad habits。 James Clear has some good ideas, like setting a goal of improving oneself by 1% per day instead of setting unrealistic goals。 My problem was that I couldn't get up the energy to read 1% of the book per day。 I don't think it's the writing。 I think it's me。 I know there are people who can, and do, change。 I could do it, too, if four ghos Here's my problem。 It's going to take the ghost of Miserable Marley, plus three more ghosts visiting me on Christmas Eve to really get me to change my bad habits。 James Clear has some good ideas, like setting a goal of improving oneself by 1% per day instead of setting unrealistic goals。 My problem was that I couldn't get up the energy to read 1% of the book per day。 I don't think it's the writing。 I think it's me。 I know there are people who can, and do, change。 I could do it, too, if four ghosts visit me in the night and scare me into a new attitude。 Until then。。。 。。。more

As someone who loved The Power of Habit, I was enthused to get a more pragmatic application of the process。 I enjoyed the handouts, the overall tone, and the easy concepts。 I look forward to applying them to my life。
